Why Hausa?
With millions of speakers spread across Nigeria, Niger, Ghana, and Cameroon, Hausa stands as one of Africa’s most widely spoken languages. Despite its prevalence, quality educational resources in Hausa have been scarce, leaving Hausa-speaking learners without adequate learning materials in their native tongue. Recognizing this gap, DSN has risen to the challenge, aiming to provide inclusive learning opportunities for Hausa speakers worldwide.
The AI in Hausa Video
On the 30th of April 2024, Google.org, the Kaduna State Government and Data Science Nigeria Launches the First AI Learning Videos in Hausa Language. Data Science Nigeria an innovative force in democratizing access to Artificial Intelligence (AI) education, proudly announces the launch of the first-ever introductory AI learning videos in Hausa language. This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant milestone in the accessibility of AI education. It is designed to serve over 80 million Hausa speakers across Nigeria and several West African countries.
The newly introduced learning series adheres to the standard principle of bite-sized micro-learning, offering a series of 40 short, animated videos, each ranging from 4 to 5 minutes in duration. Packaged in both Hausa and English, these videos are strategically designed to simplify complex AI concepts and ensure widespread comprehension across diverse segments of society.
Arewa Ladies4Tech Initiative
This initiative is part of the broader program, Arewa Ladies4Tech, a female-oriented capacity-building intervention by Data Science Nigeria with support from Google.org. Arewa Ladies4Tech aims to provide job tailored training in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Digital Technologies specifically for women in Northern Nigeria, empowering them with the skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.

Through initiatives like Arewa Ladies4Tech, Data Science Nigeria remains committed to empowering individuals, particularly women, with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in the digital age. Beyond online access, the videos are also available offline at our partner hubs in Kaduna State, primary/secondary schools, and community movie/music copying centres, where you can directly copy them into USB drives, laptops, or mobile phones.
We are also excited to have it on the NITDA learning management system, where learners can receive a completion certificate if they score 75 percent or above on the quizzes.
