Data Science Nigeria wins the Best Paper Award at ICLR 2024
It is with great joy that we announce that we have won the Best Paper Award at the ongoing #AfricaNLP workshop during #ICLR2024 in Vienna, Austria!
Our award-winning research, titled “Geo-Parsing and Geo-Visualization of Road Traffic Crash Incident Locations from Print Media for Emergency Response and Planning,” is a groundbreaking contribution at the intersection of geospatial analysis and natural language processing (NLP). This work addresses critical challenges in extracting and visualizing geographic information from textual data in print media, significantly enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency response and urban planning.
The research is led by Patricia Idakwo, alongside esteemed co-authors Bayo (Olubayo) Adekanmbi, PhD, Anthony Soronnadi, and Prof. Amos David. Their collective expertise and innovative approach have been instrumental in achieving this recognition.
This paper is part of one of our 9 accepted papers at the Masakhane’s AfricaNLP workshop, further highlighting our significant contributions to the field of AI and NLP.
